Paris France ( Part 4) ~ The End

15th May 2007, the last day for us in Paris. As usual, early in the morning, I waked up at 8AM. After we had got ourselves ready, Eric waked up and gave us a goodbye hug because we would leave Paris before he reach home after work. After that, we walked to the Metro station, set off to Sainte Chapelle.

Oh my god! Saint Chapelle was on renovation. Consequently, my plan to snapshot the chapel's facade had to be canceled.

Well, since it was still early, we had our breakfast in a coffeehouse located just beside the chapel. I reminded Mr Yap not to order too much food because westerners breakfast always in X size。 I order a sandwich and a cup of coffee. Mr Yap said that only 1 sandwich should not be enough, therefore he ordered cold chicken breakfast and another cup of coffee.

When the waiter served our food, we felt shocked. Oh my god! The sandwich was huge! A loaf of bread came as complimentary food .

Photobucket

The ticket to enter this chapel was about 7 Euro per person. The Gothic structure was so fascinating. This is one of the characteristic of Gothic architecture: Pointed Arch.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Rose window, another characteristic of this Gothic building. Every single window represents a story in the bible. The stories on the colorful windows acted as a media to deliver the messages from the bible to the people who could not read.

Photobucket

After the photo shooting session, we went to the Notre Dame, which was located just beside the Saint Chapelle. While waiting for Sri, we went along the Seine River. The weather was cold, however with warm sunlight. There was a street artist singing on the bridge with his guitar.

Photobucket

When Sri arrived at Notre Dame, she helped us to shoot this photo beside the river. From this photo, you can see another characteristic of Gothic building: Flying buttress. This is the south view of the Notre Dame, a famous spot for photo shooting.

Photobucket

Kilometer Zero of French national highway, right in front of the Notre Dame, and considered official center of the city of Paris. Kilometer Zero is a particular location (often in the nation's capital city), from which distances are traditionally measured. I saw many people standing on this Kilometer Zero and rotated themselves. I had no idea why they did so. Anybody could tell me?

Photobucket

We went into the cathedral. It was dark. We saw this brilliant chandelier.

Photobucket

The following destination, of course, was the famous Pantheon, where the place for the great men to rest in peace.

Photobucket

In the Pantheron, I found the tomb of Voltaire, a French philosopher.

Photobucket

This is the tomb of the famous scientist ~ Marie Curie. Still remember what we studied in our secondary school Physics? She was the lady who discovered 2 new elements: radium and polonium. She was honored with Nobel Prizes and and first female professor in University of Paris.

Photobucket

This is the Foucault Pendulum named after the French physicist Léon Foucault, was conceived as an experiment to demonstrate the rotation of the Earth. Foucault made his most famous pendulum when he suspended a 28-kg bob with a 67-metre wire from the dome of the Panthéon in Paris. The plane of the pendulum's swing rotated clockwise 11° per hour, making a full circle in 32.7 hours. I felt touched. The great experiment apparatus was right in front of me!

Photobucket

This is a street near the Pantheon.

While we were on our way heading to Jardin du Luxembourg (the ending of the movie The Happening was shot in Jardin Luxembourg) , we saw GLASS (in French, GLASS is ice cream) again. 3 of us bought the glass and enjoy it.

There we were. The Fountain Medicis in the Jardin du Luxembourg.

Photobucket

Sri told me that she always had her lunch in the garden because the distance from her university campus to the garden is just a stone throw away. There, I saw a lot of students lying and sleeping. There was a string quartets performance.

Photobucket

Before we left the garden, I took this photo.

Photobucket

We went back to the condo to take our luggage. I still remember, it was a rainy evening. When we walked out the condo, I saw Sri standing at the balcony, waving her hand to us. That moment, I could not differentiate whether the water on my face was the rain drops or my tears.

We took metro to go to the railway station. In the metro train, there was an aunty with her portable speaker. She sang karaoke in the train to earn money. The song that she sang was an italian song <> .We were leaving Paris, heading to railway station.

When we arrived at the railway station, we saw there was a big crowd. We felt a little bit nervous because after leaving Paris, there would be only two of us. Sri could not be there to help us if something happened in Rome.

This marked the end of our Paris trip and the start of our Rome trip. What would happen in Rome? To be continued.......

Paris France (Part 3)

Early in the morning of 14 May 2007, we waked up and went to the laundry shop nearby Eric's condo.

Arrhhhh......Everything is in French. I could not comprehend the instructions in the laundry shop.

What is A? What is B? What is C? Lavage 7KG means maximum load is 7KG?

什么是"A"?

Photobucket

I saw the word "1 paquet" therefore I made a wild guess it was " 1 pack". 1 pack of the powders cost 1 Euro. It was damn cheap but after I converted it to RM it was damn expensive.

Photobucket

The most interesting part came. This is the centralize board. How to use? We both are engineers. Engineers are good in try and error method without reading manual. So, we just simply pressed whatever buttons that we thought correct.

Photobucket

After the washing machine started running, we went to a nearby coffeehouse to have our breakfast. We ordered coffee and sandwitch. Dipping the damn hard sandwitch into the coffee and sipping the hot coffee....Yummy......

We went back to the laundry afterward. We took our clothes out from the washing machine and put into dryer. Again, we had problem with the centralized board. Luckily there was a friendly French Aunty taught us in English.

Then, we put all the clothes back to Mr Yap's bag. Quite heavy. Mr Yap, sorry ah......

We took the metro to go to The Louvre museum. When the metro train arrived at The Louvre station, we went out from the train. According to the travel guide, this entrance could avoid the big crowd at the main entrance. Another thing need to take note: The Louvre close on every Tuesday.

When we entered The Louvre, the first thing that attracted us was the glass pyramid. Yes, that was the glass pyramid mentioned in Dan Brown's famous novel <>. Mr Yap was excited. The glass pyramid was a terbalik pyramid. The tip of the glass pyramid was pointing to the tip of the smaller pyramid on the ground. According to the novel, the Holly Gray was buried there. Do you see the "rainbow" on the floor? Prism could spread the light to 6 colours ~

The Louvre is very big. It
contains more than 380,000 objects and displays 35,000 works of art in eight curatorial departments. The Louvre is an almost rectangular structure, composed of the square Cour Carrée and two wings which wrap the Cour Napoléon to the north and south. In the heart of the complex is the Louvre Pyramid, above the visitor's center. The museum is roughly divided into three wings: the Sully Wing to the east, which contains the Cour Carrée and the oldest parts of the Louvre; the Richelieu Wing to the north; and the Denon Wing, which borders the Seine to the south. These are the 8 curatorial departments:

1) Near Eastern Antiquities
2)Egytian Antiquities
3) Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Antiquities
4)Islamic Art
5)Sculptures
6)Decorative Arts
7) Paintings
8) Prints and Drawings

I was at the center of the Louvre, underneath the glass pyramid located at the main entrance.

Found these statues in the sculptures deparment. They looks weird.

Photobucket

The naked Hercules.

This is Napoleon's apartment.

I took this photo inside The Louvre through a window.

Photobucket

Ahhhhhh!!!!Ma Ma Mi ya ! When I took this photo in the Egyptian Antiquities department, I really scared the mummy would suddenly wake up to scold me.

Photobucket

Glamourous crown! I took this photo before I was acknowledged that tourists actually could not take photos here. Not every corner of The Louvre allows photo snapshop. For example: Digicams were not allowed in The Mona Lisa painting area and France Painting Gallery.

Photobucket

Too much antiques and paintings to be appreciated in The Louvre. We grabbed a copy of The Louvre map and the map indicated all the masterpieces in each departments. With the map, we selectively checked out the masterpieces that we were interested。

See, this is the main entrance of The Louvre. There was a big crowd of people queuing up to go into The Louvre。 Just after rained, the whether was cold enough.

Photobucket

We took Metro and dropped by Notre Dame to have a glance. This is a signboard in the Metro station. In France, you must know this word: Sortie. It means "Exit".

Photobucket

This is the facade of the Notre Dame. Remember the novel < >? The background of this novel is Notre Dame. It was going to rain, therefore we went back Eric's condo.

Photobucket

When we reached the condo, already about 4PM. After a while, Eric came back from his office. He drove us to go around Paris town again, after that we were heading to the famous Montmartre area. See, this is the landmark of Moulin Rough. In Montmartre area, I saw a lot of adult shops. Porn movies were on screen there. Sri and I felt excited and wanted to go into 1 of the shop but Eric and Mr Yap did not sound interested.

Photobucket

This is Sacre Coeur. A very special Roman Catholic basilica. The design of this basilica is absolutely impressive. I ever saw Sacre Coeur's photos when Sri visited Paris for her very first time and I fell in love with the special design of this building. The whether was cold enough to freeze my nose. That was the coldest weather that I ever felt for the past 26 years. We went into the basilica and there were people doing prayer. On top of us was a big dome, we could see a giant Jesus portrait with golden mozaic on it. Eric asked us not to take photo when people were praying. Therefore I did not snapshot the giant mozaic portrait.

Photobucket

After that, we also walk around Montmartre. The whether was too cold that we decided to go back condo earlier. This is 1 of the photo taken in Montmartre.

When we reached the condo, Eric became the chef. Yes, Sri bought some Escargots from supermarket and Eric cooked it for us. Delicious ~~~

Photobucket

After Escargot dinner, we watched TV together. Aha, the TV program was about a lady went for plastic surgery for her boops. Initially her boyfriend did not agree but after the surgery he felt happy with the result. The lady showed her boop in the TV~Here you can see how open minded they are.

Paris France (Part 2)

The next morning (13 May 2007 Paris date), 4 of us had breakfast together. Eric made coffee and tea for us. Mr Yap almost finished all the cookies.

After that, Sri guided us to The Garnier opera house (Palais Garnier). This is the background of the story of "Phantum of Opera". We took metro. Eh, you know, in Paris, their metro service is so complete and the charge is reasonable. Only about Euro1.4 per zone (that means you could transit as many time as you can, as long as still within the same zone). Compared to our LRT here, I was speechless that time......My Shanghai friend Crystal ever complaint to me,"Why your LRT system is so sucks ya? Why half way cannot transit further ya?" You see, how LAO YA our LRT system is.

Photobucket

This is the grand foyer of the Garnier opera house. When the handsome Parisian tour guide of the opera house was telling the stories about the meaning of each and every decoration in the hall, I snapshot this photo. This photo looks like a postcard.

Photobucket

Saw this interesting sculpture.

Photobucket

Every single staircase at the back has its unique shape and design.

Photobucket

Went back to the condo. Eric fetched us to Versailles, to check out this luxury palace. Eric is very good in history. He could tell us a lot of ancient stories with the date provided. Wow, talented young lawyer! We witnessed how a genuine Parisian park his car. You know, their parking skill is unbelievable! Such a small space, Eric managed to park his car in! You know, when Parisian park their car, they will not pull their hand brake, so that when other people park car, they can slightly knock the cars in front and behind, as an indication that the car already successfully been parked in ngam ngam. Their car bumpers all have scratched scars. If you think your parking skill is superb, then I think you really need to test your parking skill in Paris before you said you are good in parking, haha!

This is Versailles.

Photobucket

Luxury King Bed. Not King size bed, it's King Bed.

Why those people like to paint on the ceiling? If you go Europe, must bring along a mirror, so that you can see the painting on the ceiling without hurting your neck.

Photobucket

Coming back from Versailles, we past by Eiffel Tower again. Mr Yap and I decided to drop there again, while Eric & Sri went back to the condo. The ride going up to the tip of the tower was Euro10 per person. At the tip of the tower, I can see the whole view of Paris city. A well developed city, but not destroying all the historical buildings. The cold strong wind was blowing. I was shivering.

Photobucket

Summer season, the day time was longer than night time. 7PM there, the sky still looked like afternoon in Malaysia.

Photobucket

Went down from the tower. Gru gru gru......We could heard our stomach making noise. We bought french fries and coffee, had it right underneath the tower.

Photobucket

Photobucket

9PM, the light on the tower had on, but the sky still not turned dark fully.

Photobucket

The romance sense was in the air. A lot of couples were having french kiss in front of the tower. Mr Yap and I were not an excetion. We felt so happy and sweet at that moment.

Photobucket

10PM, the tower started blinking, for 10 minutes. Since year 2000, every night starting from 10PM the tower will blink. Every subsequent hour will blink for 10 minutes until the last blink for 2AM. (I am not sure, am I correct, Sri?).We recorded some videos there. However, I could not edit the videos in office now. I will upload it from my house later, if I am free to do so......

When we were on the way going back to the condo, we past by a McD. Just bought a burger, Euro1.90 only. So cheap (Do not think about the currency la......Parisian earn about the same as Malaysian but their living cost is not that high).

Remark: Initially I plan to write this in Mandarin but considering that some of my good friends (Hey Sri and grace, this english version is esclusively for you only!) could not read mandarin, so I add in the english version in the same page. I still remain the mandarin version because some of my friends prefer to read my mandarin articles :P

1 year ago (12 May 2007), Mr Yap and I had our first Europe Tour in our life. That Europe Tour was a result of a 1-month-intensive-preparation. We bought a lot of travel guides (DK series). I was in charged of planning the route while he was in charged of booking the flight tickets from internet, buying the Euro Train tickets and also exchanged the Euro banknote. 1 month before the tour, we hunted 2 backpacker bags, a 2GB Sony Memory Stick, a compass and some stuff that Sri asked me to bring over to Paris for her.

We took the red eye to Dubai airport. From the airplane, I could see Dubai is a city surrounded by sands. While waiting for the transit plane to Paris, I log on to MSN and chatted with Deniz (He was my colleague).

==========================================================

When the plane was about to landing, from the sky, I saw a well-planned blue print. My heart was beating so fast as the plane got closer to the airport. Our first step to the Europe, on the land of Paris, the most developed city in Europe.

Paris airport is not as grand as KLCC. The pegawai kastam there was really ching chai. Mr Yap's passport did not has clear stamped mark (or I could say, totally not stamped). For mine, the stamp mark is clearer compared to his, but still blur. We found this when we were in Eric's car, on the way heading to the Paris city.

Sri and her Parisian bf purposely drove from Paris city to this outskirt airport to pick us up. When they saw us, the first thing they did was: Giving us an opened arm hugging and friendly kisses on your cheeks. Wow~My dear Sri acted like Mat Salleh then. Without hesitation, Mr Yap and I also replied them the same manner. Eh, masuk kandang kambing mengemek (mengemek ke membebek?). Sri was the first friend I know when I started my first job in Onsemi. End of year 2006, she flied to Paris to futher study in Energy Engineering (Master Degree). Hey, I salute her, because she gotta learn French. People there use French for thesis.

We opened the car windows when we were in the car. According to Eric and Sri, France car does not have air cond as standard spec. Other than summer, all the time the weather is cold enough.

All along the journey, we felt excited. This is because we are heading to the direction of the romantic landmark : Eiffel Tower.

Before reached the Eiffel Tower, we saw the statue of liberty. As far as I know, France sent statue of liberty to US as gift, while France itself does have its own statue of liberty. The status was standing on the sea (I am not sure whether that was a sea or river, need to double check with Sri).

Eric brought us going around the Paris city with his nice 2-doors-car, so that we could roughly know where the tourists hotspots were. We past by Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triumph, Champ Elysee (the famous shopping street with all the grand brands), Siene River, Concierge......Their condo was just near the Eiffel Tower. So, we went to their condo to put our luggage. After that, Sri guided us walking to Eiffel Tower.

Wow, in front of me, was a great piece of grass field. A lot of people lying on the field, relaxing......At the end of the field, is the Eiffel Tower. I told myself, " Finally, I am here, right in front of Eiffel Tower. I never think that 1 day I could be here, with my darling Mr Yap."

In such a cold weather, 3 of us bought GLASS (in France, they call ice-cream as GLASS). Yummy~~~

Arc de Triumph, is inside a big roundabout. I heard my ex colleague said that this is the largest roundabout in the world (I am not sure how true is that) and insurance companies do not cover any accidents happened here (This is what I heard from my ex-colleague King Fong).

Walked straight down from Arc de Triumph, we arrived at the most happening street: Champs Elysee. Wow you could find all the grand brands here for example: Louis Vitton. We did not take photos here, but we shot videos. The videos are not available on internet now. If I am free later I may resize those videos and upload to internet. Only if I am free to do so......

(Champs Elysee)。Wow, you could find all the grand brands here for example : Loius Vitton。 。。。。。

Tomb of unknown soldier at Arc de Triump.

Near the Arc De Triumph, there is Hotel Invalides, where Napoleon I tomb located. Too bad, we did not have enough time to go inside for a visit.

After that, we walked back to the condo. That night, Sri was the great chef for both of us. She cooked Nasi Briyani. Aha, Mr Yap almost finished all the nasi, so tasty ma......

Eric's condo is studio-style. We slept on her sofa-bed. We felt warm and comfortable in her condo.

To be continued in Paris France (Part 2)......
